Executive Leadership Team

David Moatazedi has served as our President, Chief Executive Officer and as a member of our board of directors, since May 2018. Prior to that time, Mr. Moatazedi was the Senior Vice President at Allergan, Inc., or Allergan, and division head of the U.S. Medical Aesthetics division, which includes facial aesthetics, plastic surgery, regenerative medicine, body contouring, and skin care products from March 2016 to May 2018. From March 2017 to June 2020, Mr. Moatazedi served as a member of the board of directors of Obalon Therapeutics, Inc., a public medical device company focused on developing and commercializing medical devices to treat obese and overweight people by facilitating weight loss. Mr. Moatazedi worked in various leadership capacities within Allergan since March 2005, including as Vice President, Sales and Marketing of the U.S. Facial Aesthetics division from August 2014 to March 2016 and Vice President, Sales and Marketing of the U.S. Plastic Surgery division from February 2013 to August 2014. Prior to Allergan, Mr. Moatazedi was a district manager at Novartis Pharmaceuticals for the Dermatology division. Mr. Moatazedi holds an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University and a B.A. from California State University, Long Beach.

Sandra Beaver has served as our Chief Financial Officer since September 2022. From October 2019 to September 2022, Mrs. Beaver served as Senior Vice President of Finance at Experian, a global information services company, where she was responsible for half of company’s North America B2B business units. From November 2002 to September 2019, Mrs. Beaver held roles with increasing levels of responsibility and scope including Vice President of Consolidated Financial Planning & Analysis, and Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Game Technology PLC. Mrs. Beaver holds a B.A. from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Rui Avelar, M.D. has served as our Chief Medical Officer since January 2014 and was appointed to the additional position of Head of Research and Development in August 2018. From January 2014 to February 2018, Dr. Avelar also served as the Chief Medical Officer of Alphaeon. From March 2011 to December 2013, he served as Chief Medical Officer of Allergan Medical, where he was responsible for clinical development, clinical operations, safety, medical writing, biostatistics and regulatory matters. Dr. Avelar holds a M.D. from the University of Toronto and has received training accreditation in Sports Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine.

Tomoko Yamagishi-Dressler has served as our Chief Marketing Officer since 2023. Previously, she was Global Chief Marketing Officer at Beautyblender where she elevated their global market position and drove category leadership for the brand’s namesake makeup tool in Sephora and ULTA stores across the United States. From 2000 to 2020, Tomoko held increasing roles of responsibility at Shiseido, one of the world’s top 10 beauty companies. Earlier in her career, she worked at Chanel Inc. and Victoria’s Secret Beauty Company. With extensive experience in global finance, she has also managed client portfolios for top financial institutions as the former VP of Fixed Income at Lehman Brothers. Tomoko holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and now serves on the Women’s Alumnae Board.

Jeff Plumer joined Evolus in 2014 as VP, Legal and Corporate Secretary and was promoted to General Counsel in November 2020. Previously, he was a corporate attorney at K&L Gates, a fully integrated law firm located across five continents, where he worked on a wide range of legal matters including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, corporate governance issues and intellectual property transactions. Mr. Plumer received his J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Kurt Knab joined Evolus in August 2018 as Vice President of Sales. Prior to Evolus, Kurt served as VP of Sales at Medline Industries, a privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies. Before Medline, Mr. Knab held multiple sales leadership roles at Lifecell Corporation culminating in VP of Sales. Mr. Knab has more than two decades of experience in the medical and aesthetic industries. He earned his B.S. in Marketing from Pennsylvania State University.

Umberto La Magna joined Evolus as Senior Vice President of Evolus International in September 2024. Umberto began his career in aesthetics in Italy and has since lived and worked across several international markets, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and the UK. Most recently, he served as the Aesthetics Business Unit Head for the Europe, Middle East, Africa and Canada regions at Galderma, where he successfully led business expansion initiatives and executed growth strategies across these diverse markets. In a previous role at Mastelli, Umberto was responsible for global business development, leading strategic expansions that doubled revenues and EBITDA. He has also held key leadership positions at Baxter, Sinclair Pharma, and Allergan, where he managed multi-country operations, significantly improving profitability through enhanced business performance and inspiring strong team leadership.

Jessica Novak joined Evolus in November 2021 as Senior Vice President, Human Resources. Prior to Evolus, Mrs. Novak was Senior Vice President in charge of total rewards, organizational and talent development, and learning and culture functions at RGP, a next-generation global human capital firm. Prior to RGP, Mrs. Novak was the global head of HR and a member of the Executive Leader Team at Ambry Genetics and has additional experience in the manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and education industries. A board member of the National Human Resource Association, Mrs.Novak earned a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology with a minor in Business Administration at the University of Oregon. She also earned her M.S. in Human Resources Management at Chapman University.
